More about OLYMPOS, the Greek SME partner
Presentation of OLYMPOS, its activities and involvement in Flock-Reprod project.

OLYMPOS activities

OLYMPOS employees provide integrated support to the goat farmers in various affairs concerning the reproduction performance, the nutrition and the general management of their livestock. By these means, they contribute to the improvement of the goat breeding in Greece and also to the increase of the farmer’s income.
In addition, OLYMPOS advertises goat milk products in mass media (television, radio, press) and makes an effort to underline the nutritive values of goat milk and triggers the consumers to taste goat milk and products.

Furthermore, OLYMPOS is a modern enterprise with activities in various environmental and health related affairs. Here are some activities conducted by OLYMPOS during the last years:

  • In an effort to eliminate the use of genetically modified soya, the enterprise created a centre of collection and sells certified non genetic modified soya to its farmers
  • OLYMPOS is the first dairy enterprise in Greece that introduced the Braille system on the caps of its products, as an effort to help people with vision impairments.
  • In an effort to promote the recycling, the enterprise recently offered the prizes of a recycling game among the primary schools in the capital of Greece, Athens.

OLYMPOS and FLOCK-REPROD

According to the expected results of FLOCK-REPROD project protocols, the period of reproductive activity in Greek goats will be extended without the use of hormones. The result will be not only a spread in the goat milk production among the year but also the production of quality hormone-free goat milk and products. OLYMPOS needs quality goat milk during the whole year, in order to provide the markets with constant amounts of fresh goat milk and milk products. Thus, the benefits from the FLOCK-REPROD project will be of high value for the OLYMPOS dairy industry.

Within FLOCK-REPROD, OLYMPOS helps in the experiments by several means. OLYMPOS will also contribute in the Demonstration of the experiment, work that is described in WP4 of the project. OLYMPOS will form the necessary conditions in which AUTH will be able to conduct the Demonstration experiment to the open filled farms.

In addition, OLYMPOS helps the organization of conferences, and communication activities regarding the promotion of the novel knowledge that derives from the FLOCK-REPROD project, as it is described in WP5 of the project (Dissemination of Knowledge).
